Reminds me of a story I once heard... There was an arab man sat on the train, and a man opposite him, let's call him a dick, shouts at him "HEY! Why don't you go home!".

The man just stares back at him and calmly says "I am, that's why I'm on the train."

"That'll learn 'em!" is a real old expression. Maybe from an old western movie. Probably the Sheriff's sidekick saying it. Learn was pronounced "larn". Now it is used ironically, like saying ain't.

I just stumbled upon this site and I love it! Wish people would stop being racist, we all have to come from somewhere right? Except for native Americans most people are the children of European immigrants. Keep writing!

"That’ll learn them for being racist."..... "learn" is often used by southern hicks rather than the word "teach". It appears to me that Li was using the vernacular of the common racist to further the point of her drawing.

I also stumbled here and am glad that I did! Your drawings are refreshing, subtle, and powerful all at the same time. Thanks for sharing with the world!

OMG!! This one conquers! I have not made it very far in your comics, but I adore them! I have started using lucida sans in everything because it reminds me of this.

This reminds me of Albi, in Flight of the Conchord's gag. Recently experienced first hand racism too, was asked only to speak English in the UK and to f-off. But then someone overheard me telling the story to a friend and they apologized for the other person. That made me feel a bit better :)

Anyways, absolutly love your comics :) Keep it on!

If it's any consolation, one of my university majors is Asian Studies, because I love the cultures, and the languages, and I definitely think that you should be able to go where ever you want. ^-^

Just stumbled upon your web site and I have to say; good stuff! I have spent the last hour or so going through your comic's, not once though do i see much of anything of this nature in your other works. Did you have a recent run in with some racist folks that preemptively triggered a need to voice such concerns? I must say that I am glad to see someone finally getting back at them, especially with Gojira! Oh my, that'll 'learn' them a lesson or two!

I'm British and here we say "learn" I've known a few Americans, French, and German people to say learn rather than teach. Just because Li is Asian (Some of my best friends are too!) doesn't mean that she can't speak English...

"That'll learn ya" is a common phrase (sorta slang) which indeed does equate to "that will teach you" but it isn't really wrong because of the amount of use it has gotten
